Jimmy

Jimmy

I met Jimmy today, while walking around Central City with Chris (who was taking photos for his job). Jimmy was pushing his shopping cart right down the street and then pulled up next to where I was standing and settled in on the bench there. I started talking to him, and asked if he needed help getting his cart on the sidewalk. Well, he doesn’t like the sidewalks – too uneven – and he also doesn’t like taking help from anyone. We then had a nice little chat that spanned his life story to healthy cooking to politics. Sweet guy, he’s had a rough life full of bad health, specifically Type 1 diabetes, but he’s content with his simple life and making his way through that life as best he can. We all could take a lesson from him.

The camera can photograph thought. It’s better than a paragraph of sweet polemic. -Dirk Bogarde, quoted in: Independent (London, 28 Jan. 1990)
